Texas Algebra Ready (TXAR)

The Texas Algebra Ready (TXAR) initiative exists to increase the preparedness of students to meet standards and pass assessments in algebra.

Screener
The MSTAR Universal Screener, used to help guide instructional decisions in relation to students' readiness for algebra, will launch for winter administration on January 9, 2013 and will be available until February 15, 2013. The MSTAR Universal Screener can be accessed through the Project Share Gateway at http://projectsharetexas.org/ or accessed directly at http://mstar.epsilen.com.

Diagnostic
The MSTAR Diagnostic Assessment will be launched statewide in the Spring of 2013 and is designed to follow the MSTAR Universal Screener. The Screener identifies if students are 'at risk' OR 'not at risk'. The MSTAR Diagnostic Assessment is designed to provide a next step in supporting and understanding the misconceptions of middle school students struggling with Algebra-readiness.

Coming Soon
The ESTAR Universal Screener for grades 2-4 is currently in development. The content will align with algebra readiness knowledge and skills in the newly adopted mathematics TEKS. The ESTAR Universal Screener is expected to be released in the Spring of 2013.

The Texas Education Agency's (TEA) guidance document for Response to Intervention (RtI) is currently under revision. The updated document will reflect best practices for teachers and administrators and is expected to be released in the Spring of 2013.
